What does “school-ready” actually mean?
After a decade in the classroom, I’ve seen that being ready for school is about so much more than what a child knows.
Imagine being four or five years old, walking into a brand-new classroom with 24 other kids, in a completely new environment, away from your family for most of the day. There’s nobody there just for you — to help find your things, open your lunchbox, remind you what comes next, help you get to the toilet or sit beside you when something feels difficult.
Suddenly, things like holding a pencil, staying focused, following instructions, managing your belongings, communicating what you need, making friends, managing big feelings and becoming independent can all become barriers to learning.
These everyday skills are a huge part of what it means to be school-ready — alongside the early learning skills that help kids feel confident and ready to engage in the classroom.
This is what I saw in the classroom, and it’s why I created Lucky Dux. It’s also the foundation of my Pathway to Prep.
